You’ve studied hard, and have found yourself at a decent job. You’ve accepted the work environment may not be “diverse”. However, we continue the work grind battling the microaggressions and curious questions surrounding your culture. In these spaces, POC becomes a generalized voice of their people, which is unfair, and constantly towing a line of two identities--being your authentic self and the acceptable/non-threatening ‘get along’ coworker. Is the paycheck worth the cussing out of co-workers? We’ll discuss what this looks like in the workspace as we try to be the Right Kind of Black Woman.

Faye McCray is an author and essayist whose popular essays on love, life and parenting have been featured in the Huffington Post, My Brown Baby, For Harriet, Madame Noire and other popular publications. She is the Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of Weemagine, a website devoted to celebrating and inspiring all children and the people who love them. Faye is also the author of Dani's Belts, a collection of horror short stories, Boyfriend, a full length novel about a troubled college student struggling with love and fidelity, and I am Loved! a collection of positive affirmations for kids. When Faye isn't writing, she is leading a covert double life as an attorney and married mother of three beautiful young boys. She also teaching creative writing workshops for kids and teens in around Maryland. Faye is a native New Yorker by way of Southeast Queens and current resident of the D.C. Metropolitan Area.
